Money in New Zealand
New Zealand’s currency is the dollars. You guessed it: the New Zealand dollar. When withdrawing money, the best exchange rates are available at a regular bank-branch or ATM. We advise not to use the ‘exchange office’s', there exchange-rate is usually not that good.
If you see this logo on an ATM you can use most foreign bank and credit cards that require pin. Ask your local bank- branch for the cost to withdraw money in New Zealand. Typically, a fixed amount is charged per admission. So, the greater the amount you Withdrawal, the lower the (relative) cost.
Credit Card
Using your Credit Card is a safe payment option and they are widely accepted, even for small amounts. Ask your local bank-branch for your transaction costs to avoid surprises opening your bank statement.
When withdrawing money from an ATM you usually receive NZ$20, sometimes NZ$50 notes. Many companies don’t accept NZ$100 notes for security reasons. So rather pay multiple NZ$20 notes and everyone is happy.
